Blake Mason's models have been featured in my Blog and I have always liked the variety of men that they recruit for the site. Many of them just exude personality, which was evident to me when I test-drove a few of the videos. Some of the guys in the action videos were more animated than some of the high-priced studio models. I was ready to jump a few bones before they stripped to reveal their treasure. And you angliophiles will go bezerk when you hear these guys speak.

Since the owner is a photographer, the photography is normally very good. The galleries provide a nice preview of what you will see in the video.

The videos are a mixed bag. You can either watch the movies streaming or you can download a movie in a variety of resolution formats depending on your Internet connection. The connection was fast on a T-1 line and the streaming quality was like watching a movie on your DVD.

The videography is good, though the lighting could be better at times. The action videos are hot, though some could use a little scripting beforehand. I am distracted when the models look at the director for cues or worse look at the movie on television during the action with another guy. It's sorta like a trick watching Jeopardy while you are blowing him. The solo videos are good except the interviews are ill-prepared and lame. I had difficulty hearing the questions asked because the interviewer was not near the mic. Why do not photographers plan these interviews a little better or just separate the interviews into a stand-alone clip so those of us looking for action do not have to plod through 4 minutes of blabber?

All-in-all, I love watching guys jerking off and having sex with each other. That's for what I pay and that's what I want to see.

It's obvious from the first page to the last gallery that these folks have a lot of fun with what they're doing - the whole experience is like hanging out with congenial friends.

The website itself deserves mention here. I build websites for a living, and I truly respect those which are attractive, uncluttered, and have "depth of content" - meaning a lot to browse through.

The BM site is rich, navigation is slick, and the pages load quickly because the designer understood that the site's visitors were there for the guys, not pretty icons and a lot of non-essential graphic page dressing.

As far as the choice of guys at BlakeMason, I'll admit that I'd probably sleep with any of them and looking at them on the site is definitely a daymaker. They're regular Joes, each with his own charms, and they're very natural.

But the real gem here is video quality - the streams are awesome, some of the best I've seen. They're obivously shot with top of the line cameras and pro grade lights, yet the intrusion into the performance is minimal.

I'll speak technically here for a moment... With the last dozen or so updates, BM now offers super high resolution streams. They're huge - 720w x 579h, with file sizes in the 400mB range. These, you'll want to download to watch - the bandwidth required to play them "live" is above what your cable or DSL line can give you.

As far as the physical editing technique, the scene transitions are quick because those nice long dissolves from one scene to the next increase the rendered product's size.

Regarding the directorial technique, it's obvious that the BM folks have decided to include as much of the interview as possible rather than cutting out great gobs of it. The chat before the willies start waving has great continuity.

Another slick feature is Mason's Diary, which is a running - and very honest - commentary on what goes on behind the scenes. A quick read reveals that Blake and Mason, the curators, truly enjoy bringing hot guys to the screen; how they refer to them is a bit heartwarming, too, since many of the guys have become personal friends.
